On Father’s Day this Sunday, a few of our city’s favorite restaurants and bars are serving up patriarch-approved plates to treat dads to the delicious day they deserve. Here are a few of our picks!
The Pioneer
Celebrate Father’s Day with a good old-fashioned tailgate party at The Pioneer, where Executive Chef Hanis will do what he does best: barbecue! In a partnership with Mike Hess Brewing, the tailgate will start at noon, and will feature The Pioneer’s special Father’s Feast plate, complete with grilled tri tip, ribs, links and two sides for $20.95. Be sure to pair this with an ice-cold brew for good measure!
Island Prime
From 1 – 9 p.m. on Father’s Day, enjoy bay views and a delectable meal of seafood and steak at Island Prime, located on Harbor Island. Choose from entrees such as an herb crusted salmon, buttermilk fried chicken, prime New York strip and a mustard-crusted prime rib. Executive Chef Deborah Scott has pulled out all the stops to make this Father’s Day meal will be one to remember. $49.95 3-Course Feast. Call for reservations.
Havana 1920
Havana 1920, GBOD Hospitality Group’s intimate Cuban restaurant located in the Gaslamp Quarter, will offer a signature drink and dish combination for the holiday: Caipirinhas and bistec Havana. Select caipirinha cocktails will be priced at $5 each, including Clasico, made with Leblon cachaça, lime and cane sugar; One Night in Rio, a combination of strawberry and jalapeño infused Leblon cachaça, cucumber, lime and demerara; among others. The bistec Havana, an Angus skirt steak topped with house-made chimichurri and served with grilled Cuban bread, plantains and Caribbean avocado salad, priced at $15.99, will be available for pairing.
Theatre Box®
Theatre Box®, the new luxury theatre in the Gaslamp Quarter, will make fathers the star of the show with featured food and beverage offerings available exclusively on Father’s Day. At Sugar Factory American Brasserie, bottles of beer will be available for $1 with the purchase of a steak entrée. They will also offer a Monster Burger (picture above) and beer combination for $20.
Bub's @ The Beach
Dads who brunch can up the ante with a trip to Bub’s @ the Beach, where they can pair their Gravy and Biscuits with a tall drink of Man-mosa, prepared with Smirnoff Orange, orange juice and Bub’s house champagne, all topped with a 12 oz. can of Miller High Life in a mini pitcher. If this doesn’t amp up your Father’s Day, nothing will!
Death by Tequila
Death by Tequila (DxT), located in Encinitas, will invite padres and their familias to fiesta and feast on Father’s Day with a featured surf and turf entrée: steak and tempura-fried fish. The popular Baja-inspired restaurant will offer the dish exclusively on Father's Day.
Chef Angelo Sosa will prepare Death by Tequila’s take on the classic dish in honor of the holiday: steak and squid ink and tempura-fried fish, served with house-made red mole tartar sauce, priced at $36. The restaurant’s full dinner, wine, beer and signature craft cocktail menus will also be available, along with its extensive selection of tequila and mezcal.
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Father’s Day, guests can enjoy a 16-oz or 20-oz slow-roasted, herb-crusted prime rib for $45/$55 at Del Frisco's. This special cut is available alongside the full dinner menu all day to satisfy Father’s Day carnivorous cravings. Treat Dad to one of the best views of the San Diego Bay with a reservation at this two-story steakhouse overlooking the water.
Wood Ranch
For those whiskey-loving dads, head to Wood Ranch in Mission Valley for great food and Whiskey Flights. Each flight comes with three 1oz tasters, with several menu options such as ‘The American Made’, ‘Rye Nit’, or the popular ‘Build Your Own’ flight. Prices start at $15 and up. Bourbon & BBQ sounds like a Father’s Day match made in heaven!
Fireside by the Patio
Dads love a good hearty meal so Fireside by The Patio, Liberty Station’s outdoor dining experience of timeless wood-fired cuisine, is bringing back its buffet-style brunch for one day only to celebrate Father’s Day from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fireside’s Father’s Day Brunch Buffet includes a full buffet of Fireside favorites and one beer, mimosa or Bloody Mary for $39 a person. Dads can look forward to a Fireside-inspired carving station of chipotle Tri Tip, 14-hour smoked brisket and pulled pork with The Patio’s favorite sauces—Carolina BBQ and pickled green onion Chimmi Churri.
Bull and Bourbon
What better way to celebrate a well-played round of golf or a lucky streak at the slots than with a steak dinner at East County’s newest and swankiest steakhouse, Bull and Bourbon? The anchoring chophouse of Sycuan Casino Resort is offering a complimentary entrée (with purchase of one entrée) for all fathers on Sunday, June 16. Space is limited; make your reservation today.
Union Kitchen & Tap Encinitas
Head to Union Kitchen & Tap Encinitas for $7 BEER-Mosas until three p.m., featuring fresh-pressed grapefruit juice and Ballast Point Sculpin, followed by a special Father’s Day dinner complete with a 10 oz. New York Strip Steak prepared with a black garlic demi-glace, and served with crispy cipollini onions and brie croquets. Finish on a sweet no with their Homemade Apple Pie crafted with a white chocolate crumble.
Cesarina
This family-friendly Italian eatery, Cesarina, serves up a special menu inspired by the fathers of the restaurant owners, Executive Chef and Pastry Chef. Enjoy dishes the chefs learned to cook from their family patriarchs, alongside the full dinner menu of handmade pastas and regional Italian fare. Reservations available here.
Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill
Show dad how much he means to you with a trip to Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill, where you can treat him to a Messy Sundae when you mention you’re celebrating Father’s Day.
