If you watched the show 'Making It,' hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, or if you walked down the vibrant rows at a Farmers Market ready to fill your bags, or even more common, phone in hand and a glass of wine in another, pinned every inspiring link about the latest embroidery how to, crystal stone meaning or making DIY scented soaps and think this artsy, crafty, homemade realness is pure gold amazing, I wonder if I can, and is there a factory, like Willa Wonka, giving us creators a place to hone the craft, strive and thrive.
The answer is yes! Yes, there is a factory where like-minded talented souls go to cultivate and it’s right here in America’s Finest City, San Diego. Rightfully named San Diego Made, located on 2031 Commercial Street, houses a community of local makers, craftsman, small business owners, artists and creatives. With membership, you gain access to a by the book custom designed factory space for co-working, hosting events and more importantly, maker studio rentals; to get your product from ideas to fruition. For as long as San Diego Made has been in business, they have been advocating for business, producing business, helping further the development and richness of our society. But it hasn’t been without some support. Support from the community, perhaps the ones, like myself, that may be artistically challenged but very much appreciate the perseverance and beauty of something made from scratch. To celebrate such support, they are throwing a PARRRTTYYYY; A fabulous 1920’s inspired Gala, on Saturday June 29th from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., in a secret Speakeasy style location, where themed attire is encouraged. Tickets are all inclusive. With your purchase you will not only be living your best life, but contributing to a goal of building a sustainable space where people are living out their dreams. To leave you with a few quotes from spirited individuals. “Work Hard, Play Harder.” “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” “And I like large parties.” And my favorite, “Happiness is Homemade!”
